D’éirigh linn Féile na Spéartha Dorcha Ghleann Cholm Cille a eagrú I mí Mhárta mar chuid de Sheachtain Realteolaíochta na hÉireann. Mar pháirt den Fhéile seo, d’eagraigh muid siúlóid treoraithe sa dorchadas thuas chuig Bunglas, agus d'fhreastail suas le fiche daoine ar an imeacht sin. Chomh maith ‘shocraigh muid cuir I láthair ar Ghrianghrafadóireachta san oíche ag an Chlachán i nGleann Cholm Cille agus bhí scaifte deas i láthair ann chomh maith. Bhí imeacht páistí againn le Pláinéadlann Soghluaiste ag an Ionad Phobail Mhin an Aoire agus d’éirigh go mór leis.
As part of Irish Astronomy Week, we succeeded in running the first ever Glencolmcille Dark Sky festival in March 2025, the first of its kind in the whole county of Donegal. As a community registered with the International Dark Sky Association, and working towards achieving the international status, we have for the past number of years organised events to publicise the importance of Dark sky conservation, and the potential of Dark sky tourism for the region. Working with other local partners such as Glencolmcille Folk Village, Sliabh Liag Visitors centre and Oideas Gael our festival comprised a guided walking tour under the moonlight to Bunglas, the viewing point for Sliabh Liag, an informative talk on Astrophotography in the Glencolmcille Folk Village and a visit by a Mobile Planetarium to Meenaneary Community Centre. In previous years we have organised several walk celebrating the Dark Skies and a presentation talk on Introduction to Astronomy. Additionally, we have presented talks at the local secondary school Coláiste na Carraige about the protection and promotion of Dark Sky tourism.
